How to help you daughter win at tennis.
As a parent there is nothing worse than seeing your child/daughter setting out to learn some new skill or activity and returning home feeling upset, miserable, feeling dejected with no confidence and forming opinions about themselves that they will never “get it”.
As a parent you want to give them the best opportunity to win, be happy and confident and love what they are doing, right? By the word “win”, does not mean they have to be the next Wimbledon champion or Olympic gold medalist, rather its all about what Little wins they achieve along the way that turn into bigger wins.
Just look at Marion Bartoli. Her father recognized at a very young age she was not a natural athlete so went about to help his daughter build a strong foundation of ball skills. He invented gadgets and drills that many people had not done and while his style of coaching seems eccentric to most people – it worked for Marion! Because he wanted to give his daughter the best opportunity to win. So she won Wimbledon 2013!
As a child its important they get a sense of this early, just like adults we have to get a sense of achievement to want to stay in the game. Why else would you want to continue something?
I recently finished a holiday tennis camp and from day 1 to day 5 I saw the girls smiles grow bigger every day. From not knowing anything about tennis and no experience at all they all LOVE tennis! WHY? Because everyday they had a win ☺ through the GTA method they could see for THEMSELVES they were getting better. No coaches or parents TELLING them…THEY KNEW as they could see their progress. They have booked into more lessons and of course told their friends who want to come and join in all the fun!
That’s WHY Girls Tennis Academy was created because many girls are not staying in the game of tennis – if they don’t see themselves connecting with the ball or getting a sense or understanding of a “win” they don’t hang around. They would rather go and play with their friends doing something else that they “can do”. Why wouldn’t they?
Girls need to see they are “winning” every step of the way. Whether that is hitting one more ball over the net than last time, touching the ball with their racket or serving over the net more consistently or hitting a winning shot.
GTA method is all about Quick Wins- Fast Results – Love Tennis.
We break it all down so your daughter or female student gets a “win” on whatever level.
For parents to help start that journey here is a game you can play with your daughter at home.
Because we are all time poor this is a winner:
1. 2 chairs
2. A rope or a piece of string, even a skipping rope
3. Tie it between both the chairs.
4. Blow up a balloon
5. Use your hand; roll up some paper, badminton racket or table tennis bat.
6. Play tennis using the balloon!
This will help them start to track the ball as its slow and will allow them to have fun at the same time.
You can score and play a game…☺ be ready as she could beat you! Have fun with your daughter – these are the moments she and YOU wont forget ☺
