Hi,
Following on from “A teenagers Point of view” subject, I’m inspired to write more about this from a discussion I had recently with a good friend of mine.
Its about what the role of a parent & coach.
There is no doubt that as a coach I need the support from the parent/s to help their daughter.
Sometimes I see parents wanting to be their daughters “best friend” instead of being their mentor.
By that I mean, they will “give in” to their daughters whinging or whining, instead of encouraging them to keep going and push them through the hard times…this is where the LIFEFORCE is needed, to get through these times.
How many times have you heard “Mum I don’t want to go to tennis today” when they get there they LOVE it!
Too many times I see girls just about to break through to their next level and they STOP!
Only to see them return years later (early 20’s) saying they wished they had never given up when they were a teenager or younger, because know they see how important it is for them to play a sport for social, health and enjoyment.
As coaches & parents we have to see beyond the NOW and think about their FUTURE…encourage them to keep going when times get tough…they will LOVE you later!
Be prepared to be the “bad person”, be willing to use energy to communicate not just say the words – If you truly LOVE someone and care about them you will fight for them and their future.
WE have to educate them because WE have been there.
If they understand how to use LIFEFORCE and get through these tougher times as a young person, they will have this understanding for the rest of their life!
So be “COOL” and use LIFEFORCE and make your life all the better!!
